The 67th annual Tony Awards ceremony will take place on June 12, 2011 and will be moving from Radio City Music Hall this year to the historic Beacon Theatre, on Manhattan's upper west side. I decided to reach back in my photo archives to take a look back at a couple of previous Tony years on the Red Carpet at Radio City and in the Media Room, overlooking Manhattan, from the former Rainbow Room complex.
Photos include Tony nominees, winners and their colleagues. This post features the 2009 Tony's. My next post will feature a look back at the 2008 Tony's.
The 2009 Tony Award nominees and/or winners included these musicals and plays; Elton John's, Billy Elliot, The Musical; Dolly Parton's, 9 to 5; Hair; Rock of Ages; Next to Normal; Irving Berlin's White Christmas; Guys and Dolls; Shrek The Musical; Pal Joey; West Side Story; Liza's at the Palace; (title of show); Slava's Snowshow; Soul of Shaolin; You're Welcome America. A Final Night with George W. Bush; God of Carnage; Reasons to be Pretty; Speed-the-Plow; Dividing the Estate; 33 Variations; Joe Turner's Come and Gone, Mary Stuart; The Norman Conquests; Waiting for Godot; Exit the King; Equus and Blithe Spirit. Special Awards were presented to composer, Jerry Herman; actress, Phyllis Newman; publicist, Shirley Herz and regional theatre, Signature Theatre, of Arlington, Virginia.
